She wanted to play. The sportswear wasn't made for her.
YALA began with one woman, a love of sport, and a simple question: why is it so hard to find activewear that covers you and keeps up with you?
The problem
Our founder is a Muslim woman who loves sport. She trains, she moves, and she wants to feel confident doing it. But again and again, finding sportswear that respected her needs as a Muslim woman meant giving something up.
Pieces with enough coverage were often not made for real movement. Pieces made for performance rarely offered the coverage she wanted. Comfort, coverage and performance almost never arrived together.
The decision
She could have kept compromising, or kept waiting for the market to catch up. Instead, she decided to make the sportswear she could not find.
That decision is the whole brand in one sentence: you should not have to choose between your values and your passion for sport.
The product
The first YALA piece is a training set designed around real needs. An elongated top and a structured hood for coverage that stays where it should. Thumbhole sleeves so your wrists stay covered mid-movement. Relaxed pants with room for a deep squat. A 4-way stretch technical fabric that moves with you.
Every one of those details exists because it solves something. See how the set is made.
The mission
YALA is bigger than one set. It is about more Muslim women and girls taking part in sport with confidence, and feeling represented and welcome when they do. Read our mission.
What comes next
We are building towards a world where no woman has to choose between who she is and the sport she loves. One drop, one guide and one conversation at a time.
